Backstory:
Military veterans play a significant role in Northwest Nevada. Their service provides them with values and strengths that aren’t only valuable for the community, but vital as they transition to civilian life as well. The Independent Heritage Festival was established to bridge the gap between the community and the veteran, and promote a “service mentality” among the population that benefits everyone. It fosters engagement among veterans and civilian counterparts and aims to help resolve community issues together.
Wolf Pack Veterans is a student veteran organization located at the University of Nevada, Reno and also serves as the Student Veterans of America chapter for the university. The key goal of the organization is to provide each student veteran member with the tools, knowledge, and support to ensure current and future success in the academic environment. Wolf Pack Veterans is also actively involved in the support of current and former members of the armed forces, veterans on campus, fellow student organizations, and the surrounding community as a whole.
Truckee Meadows Veterans Club is focused on building a community on campus where veterans can seek support, form bonds and find assistance transitioning into education. TMVC conducts regularly scheduled outreach events, philanthropic activities, and fundraising for the organization to benefit Student Veterans. All of which is done to increase overall veteran graduation rates.
Western Nevada College Student Veterans Club and supporters, have come together in order to advance the quality of life and education for student veterans. We have organized in order to aid our brothers and sisters who have shared our uniforms and sacrifices in service to our great country. We have never forgotten one of the primary pillars that our service has taught us, leave no man behind, which is exemplified in our motto “Veterans Helping Veterans”. We have organized because we understand that a singular voice can be lost in the fray, but with our voices united we have the power to elicit change. We have gathered to foster the spirit of comradeship and cooperation among our fellow veterans and community. We will not forget that even though we have taken off our uniforms for the last time, we still serve our great country and community everyday through our steadfast dedication for our fellow veterans.
